359-2658 Fan Drive Clutch — Cat

This fan drive clutch is an essential component of the engine's cooling system, regulating the speed of the engine's cooling fan to optimize temperature control. It engages and disengages the fan based on engine temperature, ensuring efficient cooling without unnecessary power draw, unlike a seized or slipping clutch that can lead to overheating or reduced cooling performance. Operators may notice the engine temperature gauge rising excessively, or conversely, the fan running constantly at high speed when this clutch fails.

Installation & Application Notes

Inspect mating surfaces for wear before fitting. Use torque specs from service manual. Replace gaskets and seals as a set — reusing compressed gaskets causes oil leaks. Clean all oil passages with compressed air.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

A failing fan drive clutch may initially manifest as inconsistent engine cooling, with the temperature gauge fluctuating more than usual. If the clutch fails to engage properly, the engine can overheat, especially under heavy load or in high ambient temperatures. Conversely, a clutch that remains engaged can cause unnecessary fan drag, leading to reduced engine power and increased fuel consumption.

Installation Tip

Ensure the fan pulley and mounting surfaces are clean and free of debris before installing the new clutch. Do not overtighten the mounting bolts, as this can damage the clutch housing or the fan hub.

Service Note

Inspect the fan blades for damage, the radiator for blockages, and the drive belt tension when replacing the fan drive clutch.
