338-0912 Fuel Tank Cap — Cat

This is a CAT Fuel Tank Cap, designed to securely seal the fuel tank opening, preventing contamination and fuel vapor escape. Manufactured to OEM standards, it ensures a proper seal and durability, unlike a damaged or ill-fitting cap which can allow dirt and moisture into the fuel. Operators may notice fuel odors or a check engine light if the fuel cap is not sealing correctly.

Installation & Application Notes

Inspect mating surfaces for wear before fitting. Use torque specs from service manual. Replace gaskets and seals as a set — reusing compressed gaskets causes oil leaks. Clean all oil passages with compressed air.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

An improperly sealing fuel tank cap may initially lead to noticeable fuel odors around the machine. If left unaddressed, it can allow dirt and moisture to enter the fuel tank, potentially leading to fuel system contamination and engine performance issues. The most significant consequence is the potential for increased emissions and fault codes related to the evaporative emission control system.

Installation Tip

Ensure the sealing surface on the fuel tank neck is clean and free of debris before installing the new cap; even small particles can compromise the seal. Always turn the cap until it clicks or locks firmly into place to ensure proper sealing.

Service Note

When replacing the fuel cap, inspect the fuel filler neck for any damage or corrosion that could affect the seal.
