Failure Symptoms

A clogged oil filter may initially cause the oil pressure warning light to illuminate or the engine to sound rougher due to insufficient lubrication. If ignored, this can lead to increased friction and heat, potentially causing severe engine damage. The worst consequence is the complete lubrication failure leading to seized engine components.

Installation Tip

Always lubricate the rubber gasket on the new filter with a thin film of clean engine oil before installation to ensure a proper seal. Do not overtighten the filter; hand-tighten plus a quarter to half turn is usually sufficient.
