290-0358 Thermostat — Cat Engine C0 5 C0 7

This is a CAT Thermostat, a temperature-regulating valve that controls the flow of coolant through the engine's cooling system to maintain optimal operating temperature. Manufactured to meet precise OEM specifications, this thermostat ensures accurate temperature control, unlike a faulty unit that may stick open or closed. Operators may notice the engine running too cold, overheating, or experiencing fluctuating temperature readings on the gauge when this thermostat fails.

Installation & Application Notes

Inspect mating surfaces for wear before fitting. Use torque specs from service manual. Replace gaskets and seals as a set — reusing compressed gaskets causes oil leaks. Clean all oil passages with compressed air.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

The first sign of a failing thermostat is often the engine temperature gauge reading outside the normal range, either too low or too high. If the thermostat sticks open, the engine may run inefficiently and produce excessive emissions; if it sticks closed, rapid overheating can occur. Prolonged operation outside the optimal temperature range can lead to increased engine wear and reduced fuel economy.

Installation Tip

Ensure the thermostat is installed in the correct orientation, with the spring side typically facing the engine block, to allow proper coolant flow. Always replace the thermostat gasket to prevent leaks.

Service Note

Inspect the radiator hoses and water pump for signs of wear or leaks when replacing the thermostat.
