Failure Symptoms

A clogged oil filter may initially present as a slight increase in oil temperature or a dim oil pressure warning light. If ignored, the filter's bypass valve will open, allowing unfiltered oil to circulate, leading to accelerated engine wear and potential internal damage. The worst consequence is severe engine damage due to inadequate lubrication.

Installation Tip

Always lubricate the rubber gasket on the new filter with clean engine oil before installation to ensure a proper seal. Do not overtighten the filter; hand-tighten plus a quarter turn is usually sufficient.

Service Note

When replacing the oil filter, it is essential to also replace the engine oil and inspect the oil pan drain plug for wear or damage.
