273-5306 Expansion Valve — Cat 3064 3066

This expansion valve, also known as a thermostatic expansion valve (TXV), is a crucial component within the air conditioning or refrigeration system, regulating the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator. It precisely controls the amount of refrigerant based on the evaporator's temperature, ensuring efficient cooling and preventing liquid refrigerant from entering the compressor. A malfunctioning expansion valve can lead to poor cooling performance, intermittent system operation, or excessive frost buildup on AC lines, often accompanied by unusual hissing or gurgling sounds within the system.

Installation & Application Notes

Inspect mating surfaces for wear before fitting. Use torque specs from service manual. Replace gaskets and seals as a set — reusing compressed gaskets causes oil leaks. Clean all oil passages with compressed air.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

An initial sign of a failing expansion valve might be inconsistent or reduced cooling performance from the air conditioning system. If ignored, the system may begin to cycle erratically, or you might hear unusual hissing or gurgling sounds from the refrigerant lines. The worst consequence is potential damage to the compressor due to improper refrigerant flow or the system failing to provide adequate climate control.

Installation Tip

Ensure the refrigerant system is properly evacuated and purged before removing the old valve to prevent moisture contamination. Do not overtighten the valve fittings, as this can damage the threads or the valve body.

Service Note

When replacing the expansion valve, it is essential to also replace the receiver-drier or accumulator and thoroughly flush the entire refrigeration system.
