236-2314 Idler Pulley — Cat C16 C11

This is an idler pulley designed for Caterpillar engines, serving to guide and tension the accessory drive belt. It is manufactured to meet stringent OEM quality standards, providing smooth rotation and durability unlike a worn pulley with a seized or rough bearing. Operators might observe a squealing noise from the engine bay, excessive belt vibration, or a loss of accessory function if this pulley fails.

Installation & Application Notes

Inspect mating surfaces for wear before fitting. Use torque specs from service manual. Replace gaskets and seals as a set — reusing compressed gaskets causes oil leaks. Clean all oil passages with compressed air.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

The first indication of a failing idler pulley is often a high-pitched squealing noise from the engine compartment, especially on startup or under load. If ignored, the pulley bearing can seize, causing the belt to slip, overheat, or break, potentially disabling essential engine accessories. Continued operation risks damage to the drive belt and other belt-driven components.

Installation Tip

Before installing the new pulley, ensure the mounting bolt is clean and properly lubricated to prevent seizing. Avoid overtightening the mounting bolt, as this can damage the pulley bearing or the engine bracket.

Service Note

Inspect the condition of the drive belt and other pulleys in the accessory system when replacing the idler pulley.
