2143281 Pan-Oil — Cat 416C 416D

This is a replacement oil pan, also known as an oil sump, for specific Caterpillar engines. It serves as the reservoir for engine lubricating oil, collecting it after it circulates through the engine. A damaged or leaking oil pan can lead to low oil levels, causing increased engine wear and potential overheating, while a cracked pan can result in significant oil loss and engine seizure.

Installation & Application Notes

Inspect mating surfaces for wear before fitting. Use torque specs from service manual. Replace gaskets and seals as a set — reusing compressed gaskets causes oil leaks. Clean all oil passages with compressed air.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

The most common symptom of an oil pan issue is visible oil leakage, often appearing as drips under the engine. If left unaddressed, this can lead to critically low oil levels, causing increased engine noise, overheating, and severe internal component damage. Continued operation with insufficient oil can result in catastrophic engine failure.

Installation Tip

Ensure the engine block's mounting surface is perfectly clean and flat before installing the new oil pan to guarantee a proper seal. Do not overtighten the mounting bolts, as this can warp the pan or damage the gasket.

Service Note

Inspect the oil pump pickup screen for debris and clean or replace as necessary while the oil pan is removed.
