Failure Symptoms

A clogged oil filter may initially cause the oil pressure warning light to illuminate intermittently or the engine to sound slightly rougher. If the filter bypass valve opens due to excessive clogging, unfiltered oil circulates, leading to accelerated internal engine wear. The worst consequence is severe damage to engine components due to abrasive contaminants in the oil.

Installation Tip

Always lubricate the rubber gasket on the new filter with clean engine oil before installation to ensure a proper seal. Hand-tighten the filter firmly, then an additional 3/4 to 1 full turn, but do not overtighten.

Service Note

When replacing the oil filter, it is also recommended to change the engine oil and inspect the oil pan and pickup tube for any debris.
