130-8299 Engine Temperature Sensor — Cat G3408C G3512E

This engine temperature sensor accurately measures the coolant temperature and transmits this data to the engine control unit (ECU) or gauge. It is designed for precise readings under varying engine conditions, ensuring optimal performance and preventing overheating, unlike a faulty sensor that provides inaccurate or no readings. Operators may notice the temperature gauge reading incorrectly, the cooling fan not engaging, or warning lights illuminating if the sensor fails.

Installation & Application Notes

Inspect mating surfaces for wear before fitting. Use torque specs from service manual. Replace gaskets and seals as a set — reusing compressed gaskets causes oil leaks. Clean all oil passages with compressed air.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

The engine temperature gauge may show an inaccurate reading (too high, too low, or fluctuating wildly), or the gauge may not register any temperature. This can lead to the cooling fan not activating when needed or the engine running with an incorrect fuel/air mixture. Failure to address this can result in engine overheating or inefficient operation.

Installation Tip

Ensure the engine coolant is drained to the level below the sensor port before removal to prevent spillage. Apply a small amount of thread sealant to the sensor threads, but avoid getting any sealant into the sensor tip.

Service Note

Check the condition of the coolant, radiator, and thermostat when replacing the engine temperature sensor.
