118-3909 Temperature Sensor — Cat 3512

This is a CAT Temperature Sensor, designed to accurately measure and report the temperature of engine coolant or oil to the engine control module (ECM). It is manufactured to meet precise OEM specifications for reliability and accuracy, ensuring proper engine management unlike a faulty sensor that can lead to incorrect readings and suboptimal performance. Operators might observe fluctuating temperature gauges, overheating warnings, or reduced engine power if this sensor fails.

Installation & Application Notes

Inspect mating surfaces for wear before fitting. Use torque specs from service manual. Replace gaskets and seals as a set — reusing compressed gaskets causes oil leaks. Clean all oil passages with compressed air.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

A malfunctioning temperature sensor may initially cause the temperature gauge to read inaccurately, showing either too high or too low a temperature. This can lead to the ECM making incorrect adjustments, potentially causing the engine to run inefficiently or trigger overheating warnings even when the actual temperature is normal. If the sensor fails completely, the ECM may default to a safe mode, significantly reducing engine power.

Installation Tip

Ensure the engine is completely cool before attempting to remove the old temperature sensor to avoid injury. Apply a small amount of thread sealant to the threads of the new sensor, but be careful not to get any sealant into the sensor tip itself.

Service Note

Inspect the engine coolant level and condition, as well as the thermostat operation, when replacing the temperature sensor.
