105-1803 Camshaft Assembly — Cat 3126 3116

This camshaft assembly is the heart of the engine's valve train, controlling the opening and closing of intake and exhaust valves. Precision-ground from hardened steel, it ensures accurate valve timing and lift, unlike a worn camshaft with flattened lobes. Operators may experience rough idling, reduced engine power, or increased exhaust smoke if this assembly fails.

Installation & Application Notes

Inspect mating surfaces for wear before fitting. Use torque specs from service manual. Replace gaskets and seals as a set — reusing compressed gaskets causes oil leaks. Clean all oil passages with compressed air.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

Initial symptoms of a failing camshaft can include a noticeable decrease in engine performance and rough idling. If the wear progresses, valve timing can become significantly compromised, leading to poor fuel economy and excessive emissions. In severe cases, it can cause piston-to-valve contact, resulting in major internal engine damage.

Installation Tip

Lubricate the camshaft journals and lobes thoroughly with assembly lube before installation to prevent initial dry start wear. Ensure the timing marks on the camshaft gear and crankshaft gear are perfectly aligned before proceeding.

Service Note

Inspect the valve lifters, rocker arms, and timing gears for wear or damage when replacing the camshaft assembly.
