CATCooling System

248-5513 Regulator Thermostat — Cat 330D 336D

This is a CAT Regulator Thermostat, a critical component in the engine's cooling system that controls coolant flow to maintain optimal operating temperature. Manufactured to meet stringent OEM quality standards, it ensures precise temperature regulation, unlike a worn thermostat that may stick open or closed. Operators may observe the engine temperature gauge fluctuating erratically, running too cool, or overheating when this regulator fails.

Installation & Application Notes

Flush cooling system with distilled water before refilling. Use pre-mixed coolant — never plain water, which causes corrosion. Pressure-test system after any cooling repair. Check thermostat by immersing in hot water — should open at rated temperature.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

The initial symptom of a failing thermostat is often the engine temperature gauge not reaching its normal operating range or fluctuating significantly. If the thermostat sticks closed, the engine will quickly overheat, potentially leading to severe damage. If it sticks open, the engine may run inefficiently and struggle to reach optimal operating temperature, impacting performance.

Installation Tip

Ensure the thermostat is installed in the correct orientation, with the jiggle pin (if present) facing upwards, to allow air to escape the cooling system. Do not reuse the old gasket; always install a new one with the new thermostat.

Service Note

Inspect the radiator hoses and coolant for any signs of degradation or contamination when replacing the regulator thermostat.
