6Y7916 Disc-Friction — Cat 12g 12H

This is a friction disc designed for the brake system of Caterpillar equipment, providing the necessary friction surface for engaging the brakes. It is manufactured to meet stringent quality standards, ensuring performance comparable to original parts and differentiating itself from worn components that exhibit reduced thickness and material degradation. Operators may notice a spongy brake pedal, delayed stopping response, or a burning smell when this part begins to fail.

Installation & Application Notes

Always replace brakes in axle sets. Bed-in new brake pads with 8–10 moderate stops from 40 km/h. Check disc runout with a dial gauge — maximum 0.1 mm. Inspect caliper slides and pistons when replacing pads.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

Initial signs of a failing friction disc include a longer stopping distance or a softer brake pedal feel. If ignored, the braking performance will continue to degrade, potentially leading to overheating of the brake components. Continued operation with severely worn friction discs risks compromised braking capability, increasing the potential for operational incidents.

Installation Tip

Ensure the brake housing is thoroughly cleaned of all old friction material and debris before installing new discs. Avoid overtightening brake pack bolts, as this can warp the friction surfaces and lead to premature wear.

Service Note

Inspect brake plates, seals, and hydraulic fluid for contamination or wear when replacing friction discs.
