CATBearing & Bushing

8N5342 Main Bearing — Cat 1693 769B

This is a critical main bearing designed to support the rotating crankshaft within large displacement CAT diesel engines like the 1693 and D343. Manufactured to meet stringent CAT specifications, it ensures proper crankshaft alignment and minimal friction, offering superior durability compared to a worn component. Operators may observe increased engine noise, oil pressure drops, or rough running characteristics when this main bearing begins to fail.

Installation & Application Notes

Never strike bearings directly — use a bearing press or driver set. Heat housing (not bearing) to ease installation. Replace bearings in sets where applicable. Check housing bore diameter before fitting — out-of-round bores destroy new bearings.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

Initial signs of main bearing failure include a deep knocking sound from the engine, particularly noticeable at lower RPMs, and a potential drop in oil pressure. Continued operation can lead to severe crankshaft damage, bearing material transfer, and ultimately, catastrophic engine failure. This necessitates a complete engine rebuild or replacement.

Installation Tip

Thoroughly clean the crankshaft journals and the bearing bores in the engine block before installation. Ensure the correct bearing crush is achieved by proper installation and torquing of the main bearing caps.

Service Note

Inspect crankshaft journals for wear, scoring, or out-of-roundness, and check connecting rod bearings for signs of damage.
