8M6217 Guard-Idler — Cat 955K 955L

This is a CAT Guard-Idler, a protective component designed to shield the idler assembly from debris and impact in harsh operating environments. It is manufactured to meet stringent OEM quality standards, offering superior resistance to wear and damage compared to a compromised or missing guard. Operators may observe increased wear on the idler or track components, or hear unusual noises from the undercarriage if this guard is damaged or absent.

Installation & Application Notes

Never strike bearings directly — use a bearing press or driver set. Heat housing (not bearing) to ease installation. Replace bearings in sets where applicable. Check housing bore diameter before fitting — out-of-round bores destroy new bearings.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

Visible damage such as bending, cracking, or significant wear on the Guard-Idler is the first indication of a problem. If ignored, debris can accumulate around the idler, leading to premature wear of the idler itself and the track system. Continued operation with a damaged guard risks accelerated wear on multiple undercarriage components.

Installation Tip

Clean the mounting surfaces and ensure all bolt holes are clear of debris before attaching the new guard. Do not overtighten mounting bolts, as this can strip threads or warp the guard.

Service Note

Inspect the idler wheel and surrounding track components for any damage or excessive wear that may have occurred due to the guard's condition.
