Failure Symptoms

Early signs of main bearing failure include a distinct knocking or rattling sound from the engine, particularly under load, and a gradual decrease in oil pressure. As the condition worsens, the knocking will become more severe and audible at idle, and oil pressure may drop to critically low levels. Continued operation can lead to severe crankshaft and engine block damage.
