CATBearing & Bushing

4W5492-020 Main Bearing — Cat 16G 245

This is a precision-machined main bearing designed to support the crankshaft within an engine, ensuring smooth rotation and proper alignment. Manufactured to exact OEM tolerances and material specifications, it provides superior load-bearing capacity and wear resistance compared to a compromised bearing. Operators may notice increased engine noise, low oil pressure, or smoke from the exhaust if this bearing begins to fail.

Installation & Application Notes

Never strike bearings directly — use a bearing press or driver set. Heat housing (not bearing) to ease installation. Replace bearings in sets where applicable. Check housing bore diameter before fitting — out-of-round bores destroy new bearings.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

Initial symptoms often include a deep knocking sound from the engine, particularly noticeable at lower RPMs. As wear progresses, oil pressure will drop significantly, and the engine may begin to run rough or stall. Failure to address this can lead to severe crankshaft and engine block damage, resulting in a complete engine failure.

Installation Tip

Ensure the crankshaft journals and the bearing mating surfaces are immaculately clean and free from any debris or burrs. Never mix bearing shells from different sets or reuse old bearing cap bolts; always use new ones torqued to specification.

Service Note

Inspect the crankshaft journals for any signs of scoring, wear, or out-of-roundness, and check connecting rod bearings for similar wear patterns.
