CATBearing & Bushing

1N4331 Main Bearing (Rear) — Cat D9H Engine: D353

This is a rear main bearing designed to support the crankshaft within the engine block, reducing friction and wear in the main rotating assembly. It is manufactured to precise tolerances, ensuring optimal lubrication and load-bearing capacity, unlike a worn bearing which may exhibit scoring or material transfer. Symptoms of a failing rear main bearing include a deep knocking sound from the engine, especially under load, and potentially low oil pressure.

Installation & Application Notes

Never strike bearings directly — use a bearing press or driver set. Heat housing (not bearing) to ease installation. Replace bearings in sets where applicable. Check housing bore diameter before fitting — out-of-round bores destroy new bearings.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

A distinct, deep knocking sound emanating from the engine, particularly noticeable when accelerating or under load, is the primary indicator. If ignored, the knocking will intensify, potentially leading to crankshaft damage and severe engine malfunction. Continued operation risks catastrophic engine failure due to loss of crankshaft support.

Installation Tip

Thoroughly clean the crankshaft main journals and bearing bores before installation to prevent contamination. Ensure the oil holes in the bearing align with the oil passages in the block and crankshaft.

Service Note

Inspect the crankshaft journals for any signs of scoring or wear, and check the connecting rod bearings for similar signs of distress.
